Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
A 60-minute, in-depth first visit with Dr. Egenburg — the foundation for an accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan built around you.
The short answer
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation at Momentum Modern Psychiatry is a 60-minute first visit with Dr. Deanna Egenburg, preferably in person at the Marlboro, NJ office. She reviews your psychiatric, medical, family, and psychosocial history to reach an accurate diagnosis and build an individualized treatment plan. Before booking, you can schedule a free, no-obligation consultation to see whether Momentum is the right fit.
What a psychiatric evaluation is
A psychiatric evaluation is the first clinical visit with a psychiatrist. Its purpose is to understand what you're experiencing, how long it has been going on, and what might be contributing to it — and then to agree on a clear path forward.
Many practices compress this into a brief intake. At Momentum, the evaluation is a full 60 minutes with Dr. Egenburg herself, not a rotating provider. That time matters: an accurate diagnosis depends on hearing the whole story, not just a checklist of symptoms.
What Dr. Egenburg reviews with you
The evaluation is a conversation, not an interrogation. You set the pace, and there's room to share what feels most important to you. Dr. Egenburg will typically ask about:
- Your current concerns — what brought you in now, and how it's affecting work, relationships, sleep, and daily life
- Your psychiatric history, including any past diagnoses, treatment, or medications and how you responded to them
- Your medical history and current medications, since physical health and psychiatric symptoms often overlap
- Family history of mental health conditions
- Psychosocial context — work, relationships, stressors, routines, and supports
- Your goals: what you'd like to feel or do differently
What you leave with
By the end of the evaluation, Dr. Egenburg will share her impressions, discuss a working diagnosis where appropriate, and walk you through treatment options. Together you'll build an individualized plan, which may include medication management, coordination with a therapist, or other recommendations.
You'll never be rushed into a decision. If more information is needed — for example, records from a previous provider — that becomes part of the plan, too.
In person or by telehealth
The evaluation is preferably conducted in person at the Marlboro Township office (479 CR-520, Suite B201, in the Regus professional building). Meeting face to face gives the fullest picture at the start of care.
When clinically appropriate, telehealth options are available for adults located in New Jersey, and telehealth is the format for patients located in New York. Your consultation is a good time to talk through which format makes sense for you.
How to prepare
You don't need to prepare anything elaborate. It helps to bring a list of current medications and doses, any past psychiatric medications you remember trying, and the names of other clinicians involved in your care. Some people find it useful to jot down a few notes about what they'd most like to address.
Sensitive details are collected through the practice's secure, HIPAA-compliant system after scheduling — not through the booking form.
