Medication Management
Ongoing, unhurried follow-up with the same psychiatrist — monitoring how you're doing and fine-tuning treatment over time.
The short answer
Medication management at Momentum Modern Psychiatry means regular 30-minute follow-up visits with Dr. Deanna Egenburg to monitor your symptoms, review how your medication is working, and adjust treatment as needed. Visits are available in person in Marlboro, NJ, or by telehealth for adults in New Jersey and New York. New patients can start with a free consultation.
What medication management involves
Psychiatric medication is rarely a one-time decision. Finding the right medication and dose often takes careful observation, honest conversation about benefits and side effects, and thoughtful adjustments over time.
Medication management visits are where that happens. Each follow-up is a focused, 30-minute appointment with Dr. Egenburg to review how you've been feeling, how you're responding to treatment, and whether anything should change.
What happens at a follow-up visit
A typical follow-up covers:
- How your symptoms, mood, sleep, energy, and focus have changed since your last visit
- Any side effects, and how they're affecting your day-to-day life
- Whether your medication is being taken as prescribed, and anything making that difficult
- Changes in your health, other medications, or life circumstances
- Next steps — continuing, adjusting, or changing the plan — decided together
Continuity with one psychiatrist
At many practices, follow-ups are brief and you may see a different clinician each time. Momentum is built differently: you see Dr. Egenburg at every visit, and a smaller, curated patient panel means she knows your history.
That continuity makes it easier to notice patterns, make careful changes, and avoid starting over each appointment. It also makes it easier for you to speak openly.
How often you'll be seen
Most patients are seen monthly. At minimum, patients are seen once every three months, depending on clinical stability and treatment needs. When a medication is being started or adjusted, visits may be more frequent; once things are stable, they may be spaced out.
Starting, changing, or stopping a medication
Starting a new medication usually means closer follow-up at first, so Dr. Egenburg can see how you're responding and watch for side effects. Changes are made carefully and one step at a time where possible, so it's clear what's helping.
If a medication isn't working or side effects are hard to tolerate, tell Dr. Egenburg rather than stopping on your own — some medications need to be tapered gradually. Together you'll decide whether to adjust the dose, try a different option, or reconsider the plan altogether.
Your preferences matter. Some people want to minimize medications; others want to address symptoms as quickly as possible. Both are legitimate starting points for the conversation.
Coordinating with your other care
Momentum does not provide therapy in-house, but medication management often works best alongside it. With your permission, Dr. Egenburg can coordinate with your therapist or other clinicians so everyone is working from the same plan.
Prescribing decisions, including for controlled medications, follow applicable federal and state rules. Some medications may require periodic in-person visits.
In person or by telehealth
Follow-ups can take place at the Marlboro Township office or through secure, HIPAA-compliant video when clinically appropriate. Telehealth is available for adults located in New Jersey or New York at the time of the visit. Wednesday and Thursday appointments run until 9 PM, which many working patients find helpful.
