Conditions We Treat

Men's Mental Health

A discreet, straightforward approach to men's often-overlooked mental health.

Men's mental health concerns — including depression, anxiety, stress, and irritability — are often underrecognized and undertreated, in part because symptoms can look different or go unspoken.

Momentum provides a discreet, straightforward environment where men can address their mental health without judgment. Dr. Egenburg offers careful evaluation and individualized, continuous care built around your goals.

The short answer

Momentum Modern Psychiatry offers men a discreet, straightforward place to address depression, anxiety, stress, irritability, ADHD, and related concerns. Dr. Egenburg provides a thorough evaluation and continuous, individualized care in person in Marlboro, NJ, or by telehealth in New Jersey and New York when clinically appropriate.

How mental health concerns can show up in men

Men's mental health concerns are often underrecognized, partly because symptoms can look different than expected — and partly because many men were taught to push through. Depression, for example, may show up as irritability or overworking rather than sadness.

Common signs include:

  • Irritability, anger, or a short fuse
  • Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities
  • Working excessively or feeling unable to switch off
  • Drinking more or using other substances to cope
  • Trouble sleeping, fatigue, or low motivation
  • Difficulty concentrating or feeling mentally stuck
  • Physical complaints like headaches or stomach problems without a clear cause

How Dr. Egenburg approaches evaluation

The 60-minute comprehensive evaluation is a direct, confidential conversation about what's going on — your symptoms, stressors, and psychiatric, medical, and family history. The goal is a clear understanding and a practical plan, without judgment.

Treatment options

Treatment is tailored to the diagnosis and your goals. It may include medication management — for example, antidepressants for depression or anxiety, or stimulant and non-stimulant options for ADHD — along with coordination with therapy when helpful.

Visits are unhurried, and you'll see the same physician each time. Follow-ups focus on what's working and what needs adjusting.

When to see a psychiatrist

Consider an evaluation if stress, mood, or focus problems are affecting your work, relationships, or health; if you're relying on alcohol to unwind; or if the people close to you have noticed a change.

If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

In-person and telehealth care

Dr. Egenburg sees patients in person at the Marlboro, NJ office and by secure telehealth for adults located in New Jersey or New York, when clinically appropriate. Your first comprehensive evaluation is preferably done in person, so there's time to understand the full picture; many follow-up visits can then happen by video.

Frequently asked questions

Is it confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected under HIPAA, and Momentum uses secure, HIPAA-compliant systems. If you pay out of pocket rather than using in-network benefits, you control whether visit information is submitted to your insurer.

Can men's depression look like anger or irritability?

Yes. In some men, depression shows up more as irritability, withdrawal, or overworking than as sadness. An evaluation can help clarify what's going on.

Can I do appointments by telehealth around my work schedule?

Telehealth is available for adults in New Jersey and New York when clinically appropriate, and the office has evening hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. You can start by booking a free consultation.
