Conditions We Treat
Women's Mental Health
Care attuned to hormonal, reproductive, and life-stage changes.
Women's mental health encompasses the unique ways that hormonal shifts, reproductive stages, and life transitions can influence mood, anxiety, and overall well-being — from premenstrual changes to perinatal and perimenopausal periods.
Momentum offers thoughtful, personalized care attuned to these factors, with the time and continuity to understand your individual experience and adjust treatment as your needs evolve.
The short answer
Momentum Modern Psychiatry offers psychiatric care for adult women that considers hormonal, reproductive, and life-stage factors — including premenstrual, perinatal, and perimenopausal changes. Dr. Egenburg provides careful evaluation and individualized treatment in person in Marlboro, NJ, and by telehealth in New Jersey and New York when clinically appropriate.
Mental health concerns women commonly bring
Women experience many of the same conditions as anyone else, but hormonal shifts and life transitions can affect how symptoms show up and how treatment should be approached.
Common reasons women seek care include:
- Mood or anxiety symptoms that worsen before menstruation
- Depression or anxiety during pregnancy or after childbirth
- Mood, sleep, or anxiety changes around perimenopause
- Adult ADHD, often overlooked in women and diagnosed later in life
- Burnout and stress from balancing career, caregiving, and family
How Dr. Egenburg approaches evaluation
The 60-minute comprehensive evaluation includes your psychiatric, medical, family, and psychosocial history, along with reproductive history and hormonal factors that may be relevant. The aim is to understand how your symptoms relate to your life stage and circumstances.
When appropriate — for example, with your OB/GYN or primary care physician — Dr. Egenburg can coordinate with your other clinicians, with your permission.
Treatment options
Treatment is individualized and may include medication management and coordination with therapy.
Follow-up visits allow your plan to adapt as your needs change over time.
When to see a psychiatrist
Consider an evaluation if mood or anxiety symptoms follow a cyclical pattern, if you're struggling during pregnancy or after birth, if perimenopause has brought new mood or sleep changes, or if you suspect ADHD that was never assessed.
If you're having thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, seek help right away — call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
In-person and telehealth care
Dr. Egenburg sees patients in person at the Marlboro, NJ office and by secure telehealth for adults located in New Jersey or New York, when clinically appropriate. Your first comprehensive evaluation is preferably done in person, so there's time to understand the full picture; many follow-up visits can then happen by video.
Frequently asked questions
Can a psychiatrist help with postpartum depression?
Yes. A psychiatrist can evaluate postpartum mood and anxiety symptoms and discuss individualized treatment options.
Can perimenopause cause anxiety or depression?
Hormonal changes around perimenopause can affect mood, anxiety, and sleep for some women. An evaluation can help sort out what's contributing and what treatment may help.
Can I be seen by telehealth in New York?
Yes. Dr. Egenburg offers telehealth for adults located in New York, and both in-person and telehealth care in New Jersey, when clinically appropriate.
